I have some old rock that has great shape but was used in a salt water tank about 10 years ago. It is pretty dirty and has some left over residue from the last tank. What is the best way to clean and prep for reuse in a tank?

    Thanks.

Soak it in RO/DI water mixed with bleach. Some suggest up to 50% solution. The RO/DI will help in removing anything present in the rock, such as nitrate or phosphate residue, the bleach will disinfect.

After a week or so, soak in RO/DI water with about 1-2 lbs. of baking soda per 5 gallons water for another week. Then give it another week in just straight RO/DI water, then let dry before introducing to the tank.

The times are just suggestions, but IMO the longer in the preparations, the better.

    Good luck! :)

I appreciate the info and will follow your directions, is there any specific type of bleach?

    Thanks
