So I completed my auto top off system several weeks ago, and shut it down as soon as I turned it on. It seems I hadn't planned for the fact that when the water turned on it would create a siphon and keep flowing into my sump. So I purchased a check valve, thinking this would fix the problem. I installed it today, the pump turned on, the water hit the float, the float raised and shut the pump off, and the water stopped! .... well almost. There's still this trickle of water that seems to be getting by the check valve, and this was an expensive check valve. So what do I do next?

you need to put your ro water container water line under the height of the end of the tube in the sump , and make sure the end(sump side) of the tube between the two will never be below the water line in the sump.

I thought I'd measured it so that it was, but maybe I messed up. To move it will be a major issue, the hose and electrical run under the house and the holding tank is in the garage. Maybe there's a higher pressure check valve I can use?

I get that, and clearly it is not like that because siphoning is happening. I'm saying to correct it I'll have to buy another 50' of hose, 50' of electrical, crawl under the house and start over. So I'm wondering if there is another work around, like a higher pressure check valve. A check valve that will not open with the pressure of siphon only, but will only open with maybe ten pounds of pressure.

can you cut the hose in the sump so it is higher than the water line in the sump?

what about a soleniod valve? simply plug it into the same socket as the pump

when theres no electricity to it theres no flow, a soleniod can stop a co2 canister i think it can stop a bit of water

The hose is running from under the floor up to and over the top of the sump. The only mechanical way to fix this would be to tear the whole system out and start over. Something I'm hoping I don't have to do.

I like that idea. Where can I get some information on it?
