OK so the new lights showed up today, evidently one way they make them cheap is with no instructions  So for anyone that has these can you tell me how those risers mount to the light unit itself? It seems that little metal piece is supposed to slide into the slot on the back of the light but since they are screwed down it doesn't seem like you're supposed to be pulling everything apart just to get it to go together??

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks a bunch guys and gals.

You need to unscrew the hinge, which then reveals aniother screw if im correct. Then you loosen that screw slide in place, make sure they are the width of your tank, and tighten the screw. Then screw the hinge back on. I hope, as i have the same lights. Oh and for later reference the company "Catfish-Lighting" is actually another Oddysea mirror.

i forgot ot mention that they have great prices and service, i even believe they test the lights, which are oddyssea, and make me feel better about a future purchase of their 760watt with 2-250watt halides.

Got it figured out before I saw this, but thanks anyhow. I'm starting to get real nervous about the quality of these things for several reasons. First off any company that sells product without putting their name or a model number anywhere on the item makes me wonder. Also on the shipping carton there is nothing identifying brand or model anywhere, only 2 x 65 daylight, 2 x 65 actinic, etc. If it weren't for UPS requiring a name from the shipper I'd have no clue who this even came from or what it was - thankfully I at least have that so I have someone to contact (if they have any customer service at all).

So now that I had them set up and tried out for a couple hours I have a new question. I know the older models didn't have fans, but these do have two fans which was one feature specifically noted in the item description I saw before buying (both in the same corner, kind of odd). If anyone has one like that are these fans supposed to run constantly or on a thermostat like a computer fan? I had the lights on for a couple hours and they never came on, shield wasn't hot but it was warm enough I thought they would have been thinking about coming on.

So overall at this point I join the legion of odyssea haters, but until I get the tank all together I need to use these and they will be the first item upgraded.

mine are always on, and they don't get TOO hot, but they are really warm. Mine are from Catfish-lighting, which are just oddyssea byt teasted before sold, so they actually work. i never knew they were oddyssea until i read a post about 2 days ago, but i don't hate oddyssea, i might even get the 760watt halide pc combo.

You've had the light for a few hours and already hate it? LoL! It sounds like you're just LOOKING for any reason possible to dislike them.

Nope, three plugs and three switches for the three lights but that's it. I'm going to trace the wiring and see if there's any thermostats or anything or if there's juice going to them.

Not looking for a reason to hate, but I admit I'm real nervous about a company that won't put their name anywhere on the product or the packaging. That and after reading about others problems with fans and mine don't come on, well I'm not hating yet (the lights look good ;) ) but I am nervous. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Edit --- I took it apart this evening and it's supposed to be wired into the actinic wiring so anytime those are on the fan runs, the connections were there but hadn't been hooked up. So after just a little time and solder everything appears to be working now. Just thought I'd add that note in case anyone else is searching these threads for a similar problem.
