Yes, its in all the books BE PREPARED FOR EMERGENCY. I live in Northeast Arkansas...now since my electricity has been off for a week I don't know if everyone knows about the ice storm that just ripped through here, but 3 dead fish later, I want to tell everyone a quick fix for NO POWER.

sump pump for bass boat and a battery in a tall chair

saved my fish for a week...if i just would of thought of it six hours earlier i would not have lost any.

    Hope it helps someone sometime.

    Sounds like a good fix.
The only thing I would suggest that if the tank has inverts or corals, verify that there is no copper components in the pump. More than a few people have lost tanks by using pond pumps and the like due to the pumps running copper bushings.

Oh no, I don't blame you. Really good quick thinking actually. Being that its a pump from a bass boat it's probably safe and of decent quality.

hydrogen peroxide works well in power outages as well.

I use a similar set- up however instead of a car battery i use heavy duty marine batteries and they have lasted me up to 12 hours. However, I am only running my return pump off it to keep the water moving.

Dunno what type of bass boat you are speaking of, but the TRACKER boats that are beyond popular here in NorthWest Arkansas (Springdale/Fayetteville/Bentonville) are full of metal workings inside. Something you should think about before using it.

There are only about 11,000 people with out power still - unless you live in the boonies - u should have power by midnight today.

I went 4 days with out power and I live about 5 miles EAST of the airport in Springdale. Sucks cause last night on TV (5news) they had a thing on about a guy who shares a property line with a sub-station and power is flowing from the substation but no one has changed the breaker at the top of the pole going to his house....

good luck tho, u can find my post in the bucket - about no power.

the 1st battery lasted 3 days on a 750gph sump pump, changed that out with my car battery (1 day), then jumped the first battery in one of our cars and drove it until it recharged. We've done this for 7 days now.

yes we got our power back yesterday about 5pm , but there are some people here in NE Arkansas that won't have power until March sometime. I dont know what news station ur listening to but here where i live in randolph co. there are people in town who still dont have power.

Yea, I'm making reference to North WEST Arkansas and what the power companies are doing for us.

I just called Entergy, the electric company for that area, and they state power is being restored ASAP however the reason they are having issues getting it to 100% is due to the remote locations people live at in those areas. They expect 80% to be restored by the 7th and those that live in super remote areas should have power this month.

I am a volunteer member of the Emergency Management for the county I live in. The main thing our GOV. here in Arkansas did was make the entire NORTH part of the state a "Emergency" area which comes with a large number of rules that have to be followed... If you know someone who is going to be with out power for more than 15 days, your supposed to call the Governor ( Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe ) .

You can also check the status of the power in your area by going to:
Entergy Storm Center (not a mobile supported website)

    Good Luck.
