Got sum new sponges> I have no Idea about the names or anything about them for that matter. I got them while snorkeling at the beach.
I didn't break em off myself these were pieces that got broken off and washed up close to the shoreline about 20meters off the reef.
It's semi-quarantined about a week now. just waiting till Sunday when I get my live rock to put them into my 55gal new reef. It's also serving as food for my queen angel in QT. She finally began to eat yeah lol;)

since they are wild caught and broken off, I think I'd have them wait for a month in QT to make sure they don't die and pollute your dt. VERY pretty Queen Angel!! Beautiful!!!!!! One of my favorite fish!

I thought they would need a fair amount of time in QT... Because the queen angel is also being QT here, I change 20% of water every other day. So I'll keep a watchful eye on the sponges until she fully recovers.
    1. how do I know if the sponges die?
    2. Should the sponges be attached to rock/be anchored down? If so, how do I do this?
BTW, The Queen Angel is one of my favorite fish too. I was so excited when I got my hands on her;D

As far as sponges dieing look for degradation in the structure of the sponge, also look for color changes. That green branching sponge looks cool. You might have a business opportunity growing and fragging sponges. They're awesome and incredibly useful to have in and around the tank!

    Awesome, thanks for the info.
I plan to frag and sell yes because i am starting my own business in the next few months. Which leads me to my next question, How do I frag sponges?

I believe most can be cut in half. Those that are rooted are a bit different. You should be able to find out on one of the breeding forums unless there's someone here that's done it?

I have yellow spreading type sponge..
I lay a piece of rubble, etc on the sponge and in a week or 2, I just pull the frag apart,
The sponge will be on both.. I've done this 2 or 3 times..
You could give it a try with yours..

    Good Luck, Larry
