Soon, I'll be swapping out my original JBJ media basket for InTank's setup seen below.

They recommend a Filter floss, Purigen, Chemipure combo from top to bottom. I haven't heard much negative talk about either Purigen or Chemipure (not sure about running them together, though) so I can't seem to believe that this would not be a good setup.

My first question is, would anyone suggest a differet combination of filter media and why?

If not, how would I go about introducing the media change? One stage at a time? I don't want to make a drastic change and throw a parameter off suddenly.

The best way I could muster in my feeble reef theory is to change just the basket, putting the stock medias back in. This should cause no discernable change in water chemistry. Leave it be for a day or 2 and then replace the lowest media tray with Chemipure. Let this settle in and repeat the process until all media trays have been replaced giving each about a day or 2 in between the swaps.

Thoughts, ideas, opinions and tweaks are welcome.

Edit--BTW, my tank is a JBJ 28gal. LED

You can swap everything out at one time.

In the future you are probably going to change the chemipure more often than the purigen. Just rotate changing out those two, I change chemipure about every 1.5-2 months and purigen every 3 months ( depends on your bio-load as well). I use sponge instead of floss. But the set up that was suggested by inTank is the same one I use.

    Good to know.

Do you use the mesh bags that each comes in or do you supply one with different sized "openings"?

I assume you use Chemi-Pure elite but which size do you get?

I use Chemipure Elite because of the GFO, if for some reason I can not get it in a mesh bag, I take a knee high stocking (cheap, easy to find) pour it in, tie knot, cut excess off and rinse.

You can re-activate purigen, per instructions on box, I always just replace it instead.
