    hey.

just purchased a 29 gal biocube, ive downgraded from a 55 gal that i have run for the last 10 years. (fish only)
finally decided to give the reef a try. ::)

anyways please help im setting up my biocube and i purchased a 30LB bag of argonite sand (fine) probably the wrong thing to do.
before i just go ahead and dump it all in i decided to start learning from the pro's.

ive also got about 30LBs of live rock im removing from my 55 gal as well...

well my question is how much sand and how much rock should i add into the new 29 gal...
    thanks

all the rock can go in. a lb per gal is totally fine ,quite a few here go a pound and half per. as far as the sand goes, do you want a deep sand bed? that might not be beneficial. the sand you can just keep adding until you get the desired depth.

    oh and welcome to 3reef

    Welcome to 3reef!

I made the mistake of using sugar sand. It's real hard to provide the right flow for some corals w/o causing a sand storm. I also put my DSB in the display. If I could do it over I'd use something like CarribSea Special grade reef sand, only go about 2" in the tank and use a remote dsb.

I guess we're under the assumption that the rock from your FO tank was never treated with copper medications? I know you said it's live rock... but live doesn't mean encrusted with inverts.

Otherwise, do you have the stock lighting or the HQI upgraded lighting?
