Once again a new fish follows me home from LFS.

3-4" snowflake eel joins other creatures in Nano.

Promptly evicted watchman goby from his burrow. Otherwise all ok so far.

While quite shy initially, have seen him poking about tank this AM checking out new residence.

    Very, very pretty animal.

General Notes: Needs plenty of places to hide. PVC pipe may help. Known to jump from open top tanks. The Snowflake, Starry, or Diamond-Backed Moray, Echidna nebulosa is a fabulous aquarium species; small, compatible with other fish species and adaptable to captivity. It is certainly the most peaceful, outgoing and desirable moray species. Base color of silver gray with black and yellow "snowflakes" randomly sprinkled over the lower body. May sometimes eat very small fish. Needs plenty of places to hide (substrate). Known to jump from open top tanks.

Will post more pics when I can catch him out and about.

Nice! I suspect that you've got every manner of escape from the tank covered? Those little buggers are primo "escape" artists.

Am hoping he will be happy in new environment. Has shown no sign of wanting to escape. Nano hood is pretty tight. - Only place he could go would be in back sump compartments where could be easity fished ("eel'ed") out. :)

Am very happy with it. It has been fun watching it cautiously checking out new home all afternoon. --- Out a bit, - then back to lair...then out a bit again.

Unlike other eels, this one looks like it is not going to be shy and retiring all the time - and will provide good viewing. (another reason it went in Nano) - will move to main tank if/when it outgrows...

PS: Last "live" eel purchase was at street vendor in Japan (many years ago)...where one picked out "lunch" from a big bucket of very squirmy eel's - whereupon it was filleted faster then your eyes could blink and was served about a minute after. :p
