need some help guys

I am looking to buy a overflow box and a return pump for my tank. It is a 40 gallon breeder with a 20 gallon long that will be my refugium. I want to know what size overflow box and what size pump I will need. I don't want a junk overflow box what will fail and overflow my tank. Help me out all, thanks

 

CPR 70 with a Rio+ 1700 should get you about 400 gph turnover. The eshopps brand OF has become more popular but pricey. JMHO

 

I like the eshopps bc it doesn't need a pump...

 

where can I find them at a good deal? I'm not trying to spend a but load of money on them.

 

I think the pump on the CPR is a good idea, because it is a fail safe way to make sure the overflow kicks back in after a power outage

 

I see your point, but at the same time what if the pump fails? Then your return pump will just keep pumping into you dt tank. I solved the reverse syphon problem by drilling a syphon break just under the surface of the water in the dt on my return line. Works great.

Sure when I get home, I kinda figured my description sucked sorry.
Basically a small hole in the return line just under the surface of the water, that way when the power dies and water starts to syphon back to the sump until it hits the hole and allows are into the line and breaks the syphon.

 

but, will it start back up when the power comes back on if the siphon is broken?

 

Yes bc in a power loss you want the syphon to break in the return line (line from sump to dt tank). As long as there's water in the overflow box the syphon from dt to sump will stay there. I cut power everytime I do a water change and all I do when I'm done is plug it back in and everything works like nothing happened. Ill explain better with pictures later...
