I've got loads od these guys in my tank.....i absolutely love them.....they keep the sand bed sifted and stirred. every now and then i'll throw some shrimp pellets in, but they'll usually eat any pellet foods or some raw shrimp.

    hope this helps...

like he said there good to stir sand.

but also like he said or hinted at, they are carnovores so they dont eat algae, so you would need to supplement there diet to maintain a population

I love mine. They keep the sand stirred and eat any food that my fish and bristleworms miss. I reccomend them.

    I disagree with the above.

I do think they're a great part of the CuC. They're meat eaters and will eat left over meaty food or things that die (fish, snails, etc.). But I do not, nor do I recommend, specifically feed snails. They're there to clean left over food... if you feed them you are defeating their purpose.

If you don't have any fish or corals that you feed meaty foods, then these snails don't really have a purpose. If you do feed something in your tank meaty food, then these snails will eat the left overs.

Also, I disagree that they stir the sand at all. They do burrow and I think that is where this perception comes from, but as far as I can tell, they come up in the same place they went under - meaning they didn't sift anything, they didn't stir the sand by moving under it the way a cerith will.

Are they good for the tank? Absolutely. What do I feed them? Absolutely nothing.

The ones I have in my tank will crawl 3-4 inches under the sand before resurfacing thus stirring the sand.

no they will move under the sand for a little while. because you can see there eye stocks pop up and move across the sand while the body is underneath.
