I had went to a garage sale a while ago and noticed that they had a bunch of aquariums for sale. I found this nano cube and asked how much they wanted. They said that they wanted $10 for it but they decided to give it to me for free ;D I figured it would be a perfect little tank for my brother. The only problem is that the cube didn't come with a hood. I don't know the brand and couldn't figure out how the filter works, because there aren't any wires. Are the wires located in the hood? Would I need to buy a new hood for the filter to work? Sorry for all of the questions. I've never used any type of nano cube.

    TIA

You don't need a hood as a matter of fact I removed the hoods from every nano that I have ever owned for heat issues and ease of maintenance. I purchased an 18 inch fixture for mine not sure the dimensions on what you have.Leds would work well. The filter is very simple. The water goes through the grate on one side and a small pump goes on the bottom of the opposite compartment plumbed up to the return hole.A pump, small elbow, and piece of tubing is all that is required if it doesn't have these.;)The blue foam actually should be on the opposite side of where you have it in the picture. Its not a Nano cube, looks like an Aquapod which is made by Current.Heres the instructions for the 24 gallon version.

Cool! Thank you! It also came with what look like black bio balls. I shouldn't use these, should I?

I edited my post.;) I wouldn't use the bioballs as long as you have plenty of LR. I also tossed the foam and just stuffed some floss behind the grate. If you pack it in tightly enough you can get away with a small ammount of floss without it falling to the bottom of that first chamber.Or mod a little shelf for it. You can use the sponge just make sure you clean it very often.

    Thanks man!

The big question is, what do you want to be in this tank? With this answer we can determine what light or hood you will need.

Also since the unit doesn't have any water in it yet we can prep it for a refugium in the back and so on.

I'm pretty sure it only holds 12 gallons. I'd like to keep SPS, LPS, and softies. I'd like to try LED's, but don't have much money to spend. For active livestock, I was thinking a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp and maybe a Clown or Goby of some sort, along with some snails for a CuC (I'm not doing hermits, they've really been a PITA). Also, is there a page with nano cube mods on here?

Any lighting suggestions? I'd like to do LED's but don't have too much money to spend.
