Our Six-line Wrasse disappeared sometime between last night and this morning. We took the whole tank apart looking for him. There is NO trace! :( :( :(

We have a maroon clownfish and a yellow head sleeper goby...not too many corals as we're just getting started.

We did a water change yesterday and moved the live rock around to make the reefscape better (our rocks were up against the glass so had to do some rearranging). Wrasse was in there swimming around happily all afternoon.

Put them to sleep...woke up this morning...NO SIGN of Wrasse. It's like he completely vanished!! We are devastated. Water quality is good, flow is good, lighting great....what happened??????? Can they jump out? No sign of him outside the tank. Did clownfish eat him???

    :(

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Wrasse are big jumpers so that sounds like the most likely cause. Gobies are big time jumpers as well, so watch out.

Best thing to do is put some type of lid on the tank and hope for the best. There are a lot of DIY mesh or screen lids that work well.

Wrasse also hide in the sand or in small holes in the LR. Best thing you can do is just wait it out, aggressively looking by removing rock and such is usual pointless and can cause more problems.

    Good luck.

OK, well we'll keep a lookout for him. Can't find him anywhere outside the tank, so maybe he's still in there. I read that gobies were jumpers, but didn't know about wrasses.

    Thank you!

Yeah, take a look at the link in my signature when you have a chance. You need a covered tank to keep wrasses.

There's a chance it might be hiding within a rock, but that's not as likely as carpet surfing, considering it happened overnight... :(

Many people have had their dog/cat consume the evidence of a carpet surfer...

Carpet surfing, first thing I though before I even opened the thread. Lost a fire fish that way myself. Give the search a go and check out the threads on the BRS mesh. It's worth it. Do you have any pets? a dog or cat might have snacked him up after hitting the floor.

Well...wow, 6'!!!?!?!....yes, we are getting a cover for the tank TODAY!

but...guess what...he reappeared!!! saw him this morning when we turned the blue light on and I think I saw his tail at lunch. Just read a post on another forum that said his SL hid out for nearly 3 months! I think he's just really unhappy with us from changing the reefscape and dinking around with the tank. Well, it's hopefully all settled now and can be left alone!!!

Don't have any pets, thank goodness...but we did have a mouse problem over the weekend. Nearly went out and chopped the mouse we caught in half to see if he'd eaten the wrasse before heading to the mouse trap!!

    no, we didn't...yuck...:)
