I must be doing something wrong.. I have lost two fish now in my 40 breeder I lost my choris wrasse about a week ago and my tailspot has now disappeared. and He's not a shy one he's always swimming around. Haven't run tests yet today but when I lost the coris wrasse everything was fine, I dont know what else it could be. Only other fish are two clowns and a clown goby..

Please list your parameters. "Fine" doesn't cut it, actual numbers.
What other inhabitants are there? Any symptoms?

    :( Sorry to hear it.

I have a 40b and I was basically going through the same thing as you. Midas blenny, staryy blenny, clowns, bar goby... all dead. The only thing that seemed to work for me is time. After the last fish death in my tank I didn't buy anything else for like 3 months. Just yesterday I bought a fish for the first time again, and it was a tiny little clown goby. I know this doesn't really help you too much, but what worked for me was time. Playing the waiting game.

And it really would help us if you could list your full parameters. If you can check for stray voltage, I'm almost certain that is what killed a couple of my fish.

I know I haven't done the tests yet. (working on it) Last time they were fine. which doesn't matter if it doest cut it haha because its rather irrelevant now... Anywhoo besides the one I listed.. there are snails and crabs two small emerald crabs... a banded serpent star and another starfish and then corals.

It could be the serpent star, how big is it?

Im testing my prams now I know I need actual numbers Im just gathering other ideas as to what it could be if its not the prams... everything else is happy and healthy..
Stray voltage... hmmm what from? how do I check that.. wouldn't it have killed the clowns and the clown goby as well?

Its not too big about 5".. he just chills all day under this one rock I don't really suspect him. he crossed my mind but he's pretty chill and active at feeding time I give him krill too.. I don't see why he would go after him. and plus I found the coris wrasse he didn't disappear... the blenny never went around his little cave either..

    Prams

    SG- 1.025
    Nitrate -0
    Nitrite - 0
    Phosphate-0
    DKH -10
    PH 8.1
    ammonia - 0

I just dunno... This is pretty much the same test results as last time except I managed to raise my DKH to 10

While I haven't witnessed this, Serpents have been known to eat fish.

The stray voltage is a weird thing. It affects different fish differently. Some say it doesn't affect them at all. Others say it disrupts their lateral line. Every tank with equipment inside of it (basically all reef tanks) will have some level of stray voltage unless the tank is grounded, but usually not enough to cause harm. When there is enough to cause harm it could be a single piece of equipment that is faulty or sometimes, like in my case, it could be the added voltage from all the equipment combined.

I'm fairly certain it killed a few of my fish because I was doing a water change just after I grounded my tank and I let the water level go below the grounding wire in the sump. Almost half my fish were laying in the sand convulsing. I could feel the charge through a cut on my hand. Since I've grounded my display tank and re-did the sump ground, I haven't had any fish die.

To test for it, go to the hardware store and pick up a voltage meter for like $15. I think it's a good investment that everyone should make for their tank, even if they aren't having problems.

Stray voltage is only one possibility though. Please do continue to figure out all your parameters.

Im going to replace my pump. its being a pain in the A** It doesnt pump at a consistent rate and its just old and goin out.. I dunno if it would have any stray voltage.. I have a skimmer and heater and the pump thats in my sump thats pretty much it.
