So far the only modes I have been able to sustain with my MP40W is standard and lagoon.

When I try the: reef crest, short pulse, or long pulse it seems to fail after 30 minutes or so. I check in on it to find that it is in the red flashing mode. Anyone have an idea what may be the cause of this?

Which red flashing mode? Red/Yellow, red/green or red/blue?

I don't know if this is the same issue as what I had. Here is what I found, maybe it will help.
Did you do the disconnect calibration? Where it will turn off the motor if the sides disconnect?
I had this issue on all of my Vortechs. I just dealt with it on my MP40's and they seemed to eventually settle in and no longer do it, or it could have been some little detail in the way I did the disconnect recalibration a million times that eventually got them calibrated correctly.
On my MP10 I tried the calibration and it started doing it again, so I just gave up and decided I'll just not do the disconnect cailbration on it.

The issue I found is when the pump goes down to the very low propeller speeds which you'll find happens all the time on the pulses and reef crest. With lagoon since there is a much longer potential time before it hits the bottom end of the power cycle you won't see it as often.

This is how I tested it, I restarted the pump and switched it to standard mode then slowly turned the power down, it consistently triggers the disconnect function that stops the driver when it got down to maybe 25% or so.

If that doesn't work get a hold of the company. Mine had similar problems when I got it. I contacted them, and the sent me a brand new one with return shipping for the broken one in the package. Awesome customer service.

Im not sure if the applies to the MP40, but on the MP10 when you do the disconnect calibration you must be holding the dry side in your hand or it will fail. To clear the calibration hold mode till it blinks white, then hold mode and set till it blinks yellow/white. Then unplug the power and replug it in. This will clear the calibration and it will work properly.
