Im on a really tight budget and I cant drop $300 on and mp20 so I was wondering if an mp10 would be powerful enough for a 40b reef?

I was wondering the same for my 36. It says they are good from 2.5-50 gallons so I'm assuming we'd both be fine with it.

I think an MP10 is just fine, I would consider putting another powerhead on the other side though, just a Koralia or something so there is some flow from both directions, it will help eliminate dead spots in the tank.

I have a 40g breaded as well and I bought a mp 10 for it. It for one is a really cool powerhead / wave maker that is super small and works great. Know my tanks is new and doesn't have anything in it other then a thin sand bed (1/4 to 1/2 inch deep) and just 2 pounds of LR. I also have my 20g sump with mag 5 up and running. As for the water movement, Their seams to be alot. For exsample. With the mp 10 set to long pulse mode and the water force set to around 3/4 power it will slightly move the sand around alittle. That's with the mp10 at the side of the tank in the center of the glass form top to bottum and front to back. Know it I max out the water force to full power it really kicks around the sand. actully It moves it enough to clear out the sand in some spots and shows the bottom of the tank on the far side of the tank from the mp 10. I can also see some small things floting around in the tank and they are moving all over the place. Know keep on mind that this is happening in a tank with only 2 lbs of LR so my water volume and area is much higher then if you have alot of live rock. So with more LR it should be even better.

All in all to me the mp10 is great. It seams like enough movement to me.

As for the cost. It's cheaper then 2 powerheads (that add up to the same flow) and a wave maker. It also takes up far less room and looks much better.

Know somthing I was thinking about doing way down the road when I have extra money to just blow, is to add one more mp10 for a total of 2 mp10's and runn them at the lower water flow level. Thouht it might give even more crazy water movement. Just a thought.

Oh yah at max power the mp10 to me is kinda noisy but that's at full power. I'm only punning mine at about 3/4 power but i have no corals in it yet.

To sum up my point I'm very glad I bought it.

this is a photo of it in my tank. So know you can get an idea of what it looks like in a 40g breeder. not able to ready see the water movement it causes but i thought it might help yah.

Well i posted something that wasnt fully correct

"Oh yah at max power the mp10 to me is kinda noisy but that's at full power."

I went to their web site EcoTech Marine - Revolutionary Pump Technology for Reef Aquariums and found a few how to vids and one of this showed how to reduce vibration / noise. So mine was making a little bit of noise because i didnt have the 2 parts lined up perfectly. it showed in the vid how to do this and i have mine at max power with no noise at all really. VERY QUITE and GREAT WATER FLOW.

BTW it took like two seconds to get it perfectly aligned.
