I am not sure if it keeps falling off the live rock or it has the ability to move throughout my tank. I place the clam on what I believed to be a stable flat rock for it to rest on. Now, the past two days in a row it has been discovered down on the substrate. When I go to grab him it holds on for dear life!

-Do clams move about the tank on their own?

-What are the primary care procedures for clams?

-What kind of clam is this?

I'm not sure exaclty what kind it is but yes they do move around until they find a good spot and attach themselves with a permanent "string", which is really tough and stays on the rock even if you rip the clam off..

do NOT pull the clam off. If you injure his bysal gland, it will kill the clam. The bysal must be cut with a razor, as far away from the clam as possible.
