So I bought a red montipora on a plug and I accidentally broke it off the plug. I took the edge that broke off and superglued the portion to the side of the rock. It was really challenging since glue is hard to work with underwater, but I did get it to stick there.

Now I am second-guessing my work since I read on a separate forum that it will not grow through or around the glue. So my hold on the rock is always going to "barely" hold the coral. is this true? Should I glue the bottom of the plate-shaped monti and aim it up? I'm totally new to this coral.

    Thanks

whilst the monti may not grow directly over the superglue itself
it will grow and as it does so, it will make contact with other surface area on the surrounding rockwork and will fuse with that (or glass or acrylic or plastic IME)

Steve has it correct. It will most definitely grow out, then eventually down to the rockwork. I have a ton of SPS I glued direct to the rock with super glue that are now solidly bonded to the rock by their own growth.
