I want to inform others of a product that has been very useful to me. It is the "Monoject 412" syringe that comes with a plastic curved tip in place of a metal needle. I use this tool on a daily basis for feeding frozen foods and it works wonderfully. I simply thaw the frozen food in a shot glass of tank water then suck it all up with the syringe. Feeding is ideal because I can squeeze out little bits at a time and watch every piece of food get eaten before I squeeze out more. If I feel like all the fish have had enough I can target feed corals with the remaining food, and the syringe makes this task very easy.

You'll want to order a couple of them, if you do, because the rubber plunger will wear out with constant use. The price is about $2 per unit so its really worth it in my opinion. The intended use for this product is to clean open wounds and to clean eye balls so it's more than reef safe. By now the fish recognize the syringe and they start biting the tip before I even get the change to squeeze any food out.

People also seem to be impressed when they see you feeding your fish with a syringe.. so that's kinda cool.

I hope this post might help those who just guess how much to feed and throw it all in at the same time, this syringe will make it so much easier to feed the correct amount. Even if you feed flakes (which you shouldn't) it would be more ideal in my mind to have the flakes submerged and go to the bottom rather then float on the surface and get concentrated in your mechanical filtration.

One thing you will need to do is cut off a small portion of the tip of the syringe because at it's stock size the opening is just too small for whole mysis/brine shrimp or things like squid chunks.

    Thanks for reading!
