I currently acquired a brand new Marineland C 220 canister filter for $13. I set it up as a large media reactor running activated carbon and Bellaphos simultaneously. I removed the ceramic rings and bio balls after hearing they end up contributing to P04 levels and such.

My question is, why is the return elbow blowing microbubbles into the DT? I primed the filter as the instructions say, but it continues to put out these microbubbles. Any thoughts?

microbubbles are a big pain in the $$$. im dealing with them now. do you have the skimmer in your dt or in a sump/fuge. some skimmers will never stop spitting microbubbles and if your doesnt you may need to put it in a sump....and block the bubbles from there...

it is not a skimmer. It is a canister filter that is making the microbubbles. My skimmer is a hang on the back, but it does not produce microbubbles, only the canister filter does. I don't know what I should do. I wonder if I turned it off and then turned it back on if that would help.

since you remove the inside rings and bio balls that could of effected it try (not in your tank but somewhere else) to run it with everything in it see how it runs if it runs the same maybe there is a crack in one of the intake or return tubes or it may be missing a o ring or foam inner ring look up on the internet for complete assembly parts make sure everything is there

i had a c220. never really had a problem with micro bubbles after start up. it would always spit a bunch out after i started it up, or if i tilted or bumped the canister. i did have a major problem trying to keep the thing from leaking water though. i think someone already may have mentioned this but make sure that the little o rings that connect the media trays together are in place. i didnt even notice they were there the first couple times i took it apart.

you also may want to check and make sure the latching system for the "plumbing head" is secured all the way
