ok. i have done so much to get completley rid of microbubbles. i rebuilt a new 10 gallon fuge with baffles. i got filter socks. i have stopped nearly 100% of any bubbles getting to my return pump, yet i still get burst of bubbles every few mins from the return line. NO bubbles are getting to the pump, the pump and hose are completley submerged under water and it is just one plastic tube going right from the pump to the tank. there is NO way bubbles can get to the pump, yet i still have them? any suggestions. can i just leave this problem alone and let my tank go on....they are harmless right

Unsightly, and I've heard they can damage gills over time...I think they can hurt corals too...I would continue to try and fix the problem before they cause you more of a problem

So, the return line from your pump to your tank is burst bubbles into your display?

I would work from the bubbles coming into your tank backwards towards the pump. The air is coming from somewhere. Good fittings at all connections?? No leaks?? By the way, are you SURE no bubbles are getting into the tank?? I finally put a slash box in my sump to eliminate the probem for me.

Pictures of the plumbing would help. I am not a reef expert by any means, but I am pretty good at trouble shooting problems.

no visible bubbles get to the return pump. the return pump just has a tube that goes to the main tank.where the tube connects to the pump is under water so it cant be sucking air. the tube does not drip anywhere on its way to the main tank so its not sucking any air either. what gets me is the filter sponge on the return pump has bubbles all over it....but no microbubbles are getting to the thing

I would take the sponge off completely for a while and see what happens. If there are bubbles on the sponge, there are bubbles in your pump section of your sump. Is your tube from your pump to the tank clear?? Can you see the burst coming from the pump to the tank?

Sounds to me like a very small amount of bubble are getting into your pump and accumulating until you get a burst of microbubbles.
