    Bump please help my hermit crabs are on its shell its that fine or should i take them off?

    They could be picking at the algae on the shell. How long have you been in the hobby? Clams are not for beginners. Not to scare you away or anything, but they require really good water prams and lighting. Have you read up on them at all?

    Oh, I have been 8-9 months in this hobby but this is my first clam ever. I have x2 150 watt MH, With x2 65 watt T5's. Is that good lighting for my maxima? ALso I have it on my sand bed is that fine? But my prams are
    PH: 8.0-8.3
    Ammonia:0
    Nitrite:0
    Nitrate:Not sure but I change 5 gallons every week
    Salinity: 1.025
    dKH/KH/Alkalinity: Not sure but I dose Kent Marine Coral Builder twice a week
    Magnesium: Don't Know
    Calcium: 400-450
    Phosphate: Don't Know but if anything low because I have a fuge in my sump

    i didnt drip acclimate my clam i dont believe its necessary all i did was temp acclimate

    maximas do not like the sandbed. It needs to be able to secure itself onto a rock. Place it med-high up in a nook it wont fall out of. If its happy, it will plant its foot. If not, it will jump off the rock. Your lighting should work fine.

    Bad idea to buy a clam after not seeing it healthy. Even worse idea to buy a clam from your friend that just got it today. That means the fish store probably just got it, started acclimation, then your buddy bought it, started acclimation, now you. You would be lucky if that clam isnt stressed horribly. Better to observe for a week or two to know its healthy before purchasing and putting it through all that stress.

    For some reason, the clam has a smell or look to it that the hermits like. I put my clam in and about 10 hermits surrounded it for an hour cleaning bits of algae off, then they left it be, never touched it again.

    He got it 2 days before i bought it off of him. But its fine, Its showing some of its mantle now.

    Just curious are you sure they're t5's and not power compacts ? Didn't know t5's came in 65w

    Im pretty sure they are t5's they are blue, Single bulb
