    Hey guys,
My friend is giving away a tank with hood (24"Lx10"Wx12"H). I have been into FW planted and Reef tank since long time and always wanted to setup a marine planted tank.
Here is a George Framer article i came across :
How to set up a planted marine aquarium | Features | Practical Fishkeeping

Macro im intrested in keeping are Caulerpa, Feather Caulerpa Runner , Chaetomorpha, Halimeda, Red Flame and some other Macros.

Has anyone made this tank and is successful. How do i Cycle it? and any supplements required? My plan is to add water from my other tank when i do a WC. So reef tank get new water and macro tank gets the reef tank water (nitrates and stuff) the filteration im planning is just some carbon and GFO mixed, will be changed every month or 15 dads. No protein skimmer.

Fishes will be 1 or two locally caught goby, 2 hermits and a pair of clown.
Will add a wavemaker 3000 lph. sandbed will be 1.5" thick aragonite sand.

Any suggestions? the tank will be coming in a week or two. So got some time to discuss.

Should be a pretty easy tank to maintain!! Basically just a standalone display fuge. Get some dragons breath for color. And assorted sea grasses.

    BTW

You cycle it like you would any other tank except you can add the plants earlier in the cycle, like as soon as any nitrates show up.

Most crabs eat algae so they aren't good choices for CUC, even hermit crabs.

Snails like turbo's and astrae will eat the decorative algae before they touch the nuisance stuff.

Any fish that is strictly a herbivore is going to wipe out your plants. Even if they only nip a bit it can cause stress leading in the death of the plant.

Get any caulerpa out of the tank as soon as it begins to look translucent. It's going sexual and releasing CO2, dropping your pH and crashing the tank. Yes it can kill your fish too.

Any macro that begins to die should be removed because as it decays it releases stored PO4.

    Hope that helps a little.
