just bought a long ten ane a few days ago. i haerd it need at least 4in os sand. atm hes in 2 and doing fine. his foot is about 4in diameter and at least a foot of tents. i feel hes doing fine. i am feeding shrimp i get from the store frozen section but dont know how much to feed him. i have lots of lights way to much for the tank but the tank is doing great just moving corals where they are happy.

so my question about these are should his whole foot be in the sand? i believe there is 2in of foot still sticking out of sand. whats why i was wondering abpout the 4in of sand rule for these ane.

i also have a clownfish im trying to get him to host it by sticking pic of clownfish inside of an ane. will this work and how long will it take?

any input would be very greatful :) .

It will move to where it wants to be happy. The sand thing is.... eh, its another one of those things that arent a solid in stone must have events. It's a suggestion not a law of science.

For the clown give it time. You cant force them into each other. If the clown wants to go there he will, truth is that they might never hook up.

Don't worry about the sand or placement, he will find his home on his own and there is little to nothing you can do about it.

As for feeding, you can feed him a couple times a week or every other week - it all works. I find feeding every day or large peices causes stress. It's a lot of work for an anemone to process food. cut the food up into smaller peices and jsut give him one or two peices.

    +1 to all the above.

1 tiny addition- IME, if the nem settles where it can catch a few bits of fish food, target feeding may not be necessary at all. You can tell by it's size, as it will start to shrink long before it suffers any health issues.

I agree with everything so far.

What kind of clown did you say you have. Wild caught clowns bond with specific Anemones because they are from the same region.

There is no guarantee that even though they are from the same region, they will ever identify with the Nem. Clowns are extremely unpredictable when it comes to bonding.

I once had a maroon clown hosted with not one, not two, but 3 Condylactis Anemones at the same time which is a total longshot and I was told by the LFS that he wouldn't even pay attention to them. He started to bond within a couple hours of putting them in the tank. They had not even gotten settled in and he was bouncing them all over the place.

Tank raised clowns, many times will not identify with an Anemone. My opinion is they probably have no idea what the Nem is and what they should do with it. I'm sure if they are raised with one the odds are much higher.

Clowns have been known to host other corals, torch, Zoas, toadstools, even powerheads. Each clown is different as to what he will or won't do and there is no set time as to how long it will take it to bond. Could be love at first sight, may never happen.

Everytime I hear the picture idea, I have to chuckle. It's like hooking the Oinking noice to the refridgerator. LOL. I have heard of others using this technique but not sure what the percentages for success are.

So, what clown do you have that you want to bond with the LTA?

cant tell u if its it tank raised or caught. but its the neno type cause thats what the little one wanted in the tank. hes always in 1 spot w/ other fish and does realy move. i have a elegance coral ive read that sometimes they may host but no luck there.
