For those who have worked with Loc-Line--must one purchase the specialized pliers to assemble; or can job be accomplished without them? I'd rather not spend $15 for a tool I'll only use once.

I'm only going to attach a flare end to one side, and an adapter to thread into a bulkhead on the other side of a short length of Loc-line.

You can use vicegrip pliers or just brute strength. I don't have one of the special pliers and I was able to shorten the loc-line by on piece and change the ends. Use a little water to lubricate the links before using pliers or brute force.

I have always just popped them together and apart. Never had one break... it does take some force though... maybe I've been lucky.

I have never needed them, just use some elbow grease and some hot water it its being really stubborn. The older stuff can get brittle, but if your buying new you'll be fine.

No doubt. I was trying to establish if they're like a basin wrench. If you've ever used one of those, you pretty much can NOT fasten the bottom of a faucet without one.

Consensus seems to be that they're "just nice to have." :)

I'm gonna man up and get all incredible hulk on it.

    You can do it!!!!
I pull them apart all the time...its not that bad, every once in a while one can get stubborn, but if you kinda bend it at the joint and pull, it should come apart.

    No tool required IMO.
