Considering on converting my 75 gallon tank to a reef tank. What would be a good lighting system for under $250?

Since you're in the market for lighting, I'd suggest LED. Reef Breeders can recommend a model for your particular tank and desired inhabitants for a reasonable price. Also, their units seem to be getting a lot of good reviews.

    $250?
GL with that, RB fixtures are awesome, Nooze's one would be perfect if you switched the led colors/numbers.

I've been happy with my T5 HO lights. You can find a fixture for about what you want to spend. I got mine with the bulbs that came with it but plan on upgrading to ATI bulbs when it's time.....

Well, since all my 3Reef heros have switched or have it in their plans... ::)

Seriously, the technology and the market have improved dramatically in the past few months, and there are some very capable, reasonably priced units available. While I haven't yet switched, I have been doing some research.

For the OP though, considering your tank size and budget, you might want to look around ebay or craigslist. You can usually find good deals on MH or T5 if you don't mind used products.

Oh no I completely understand. Man I went from t5 to mh to led and then back to t5. Now thinking about going back to led again now seeing the fixtures that are coming out and DIY improvements.

$250 and 75G will not get you a lot of options, Taotronics and ReefBreders are very popular now, but if I'll have to buy my led now - I would consider fixture from RapidLed!
Onyx by Rapid LED - Rapid LED

RB fixtures are far bette than the TT's and slightly better than the onyx... IMO
