why dont you do the extremely odd thing and buy a 72 inch fixture and save yourself the problems of possible having a electricly charged tank when it decides to fall in ive done this before and thankfully i dident have fish yet but i learned the lesson buy the fixture that fits your tank,6 foot tank is a pretty big system for a beginner tank?

How much is the fixture, each?

Also, while brand name may be important to some people, my general experience with lighting is that the bulbs are almost more important than the fixture, as long as the ballast is reliable.

Are you planning on keeping coral? If yes, than you may need more than a 2 bulb fixture.

There may be some light fixtures on Craigslist.

Never skimp on lights. Everything you spend on cheaper lights will be added to the total it cost you to end up with the good ones in the end.

    Trust me, I know...

Buy your light based on the type of tank you are going to keep. If you are going SPS you will need 4 bulbs on each side at least. Definitely buy a fixture that covers the whole tank unless you plan on hanging the fixtures.
