    Hello fellow reefers!!!
Do any of you test other than the basics as far as water parameters are concerned? By this I mean testing for Carbon dioxide, Dissolved oxygen, magnesium, silica, iron or residual ozone?:-/

    Not really.

I actually consider Magnesium as an important test kit but I used to have so much coralline that sucked it out of the water like there was no tomorrow. Remember, Magnesium is a Major Element in NSW and is a bigger part of it than even Calcium is.

I do own a Dissolved Oxygen test but it's not really used.

I could care less about CO2....my pH level will tell me if my skimmer is offgassing enough CO2.

    Silica....if I'm not getting diatoms, I don't care.

    Iron....if I'm not getting microalgaes, I don't care.

Ozone....I don't use it so I don't need to test for any residuals.

Iron is beneficial for macroalgae growth. However if you dose to much you end up spurring microalgae! Iron is a component of the cytochrome molecule, and is used by zooxanthellae, and algae. Iron defficiency will lower the rate of photosynthesis! Alkalinity will bring down the amount of iron in your water.

I test for Magnesium and I used to test for free Ozone but after first 10 yrs and never finding any I stopped that as for TDO I do test that when I first set up a tank and once I get the air dialed in then its not tested again.. But then the ozone in the skimmer keeps that saturated as well. I have never found free 0'3 even if I used a air stone in a drinking glass and 200 MHz pumping into it. Its a wasted test I think I have used 0'3 since 1972 and have yet ever to find any using every test kit or monitor out there over the yrs. Also the animals with iron based hemoglobin based blood uptake the iron . I know this from somewhere ???? hahahah Its filed under and in the usless Carp folder in my people brain Not my computer one ..

I also test for magnesium regularly. Like inwall i consider it important.
