I am always learning something new in this hobby everyday. Some days I like it, others its a lesson. Todays lesson; large nerite snails can and will get into your plumbing pipes and clog them. What do you guys use to cover either your corner overflows or pipes.

LOL!!!!!!!!!! My nerites will try to crawl into my vortechs. I hear a gently increasing clicking for about five minutes, then it dims. This happens about once a week.

+1 on the shop vac! Especially with long PVC runs. Had to do it twice in the past 2 months even with eggcrate screens over the overflows they still some how find a way.

I recently found one that apparently had somehow climbed out of my 46 gal bow (which is fully covered except for a small opening by the skimmer in the back of the tank), down the front of the tank, inside one of the shelving spaces on the stand. No idea how long he was there, but I pulled him off and put him back in the tank and he was right back at it!

On my 55 gal (which has a 30 gal sump) I have egg crate that is up tight to my overflow box, so nothing but the smallest (dwarf ceriths) could fit through. I am always checking the top of the egg crate to make sure one is not trying to escape. So far there was only one smaller one who was just making it to the top of the egg crate. You would think they would just be happy to stay in the water where there is plenty of food!

If you ordered 150 nerites, yes. If you ordered a few nerits along with a mix of others, no. They will occasionally crawl out early on. Put em back in the tank and it will work itself out.

While I have not had issues with them clogging up my pipes I do know that for some reason these particular snails do tend to go "walk about".
When I tried adding them to my rimless frag tank I would find them all over my countertop.:(
