My T?DS meter needed new batteries, which it came with 2 new batteries in the plastic case it cam in- installed them.

I have a 'water general co.' RO/DI- ebay special

Came with everthing including a 3g storage tank and a tap to put which I mounted on my kitchen sink for cooking and drinking water.

I checked the tap- 147 ppm TDS which is what I had been getting.
    .
My system is over a year old now-
    RO tap- 0 ppm TDS

Didn't even have to check the DI side, but last time I did, it was also O.

I got this system shipped to my door off ebay for around $100
    Still working well!

PS- I would recommend the Spectrapure systems though, after research and reading The RO/DI guru's posts!
I think I"ll use their filters and resin WHEN I need new ones

Agree. I use Spectrapure filters in mine (Air Water Ice Typhoon). I have very low TDS to start with (46-52), so my filters last a while. I change them every year regardless of TDS readings...I know something is growing in the filters by then!

HM Digital TDS-3, TDS-4TM, COM-100 or their new AP-1 I beleiev it is called. All are temperature compensated, have a built in digital thermometer so serve dual purposes and the COM-100 even reads down to tenths of a ppm TDS so is extremely accurate.

No RO membrane is 100% efficient so RO water will never truly be 0 TDS. Either the meter is in need of cleaning and calibration or its below the level of accuracy of the meter. Either way it sounds like the membrane is doing a good job though. Thats what you want to hear.

My Spectrapure 100GPD MaxCap UHE is 5 years old, the tap TDS averages 630-650 and the RO only TDS is still between 2 and 3 using a calibrated COM-100 handheld TDS meter. The inlines vary from 0 to 12 on the RO only so are only used as a rough guide. Sediment and carbon filters have nothing to do with TDS so it is not an indicator when to change them. Their purpose is to protect the RO membrane which does 90-98% of the TDS removal and protects the DI resin which does the remaining 2-10% of the work.
