I am setting up a new tank in the next two weeks because my last one sprung a leak last April. I have kept my live rock in a storage container with circulation and some snails and an air stone.

Now my new tank is going to be sps dominant again and I really dont want to have to wait around a couple of months to transfer my sps from my dads tank to my new tank. how long will i have to wait to safely add my sps? i expect a minimal cycle from the new sand

Probably until your ammonia and nitrite are 0. If you read 0's then you're good.

well i know that... but i think what im getting at is that the tank wont be "aged" with the exception of the rock and whatever floats from my fuge (from old system, still running) to the new DT.
    any foreseeable problems here?

I had the same situation Dingo, but with my 90g. LR was "very" live, had kept it in a rubbermaid tub with lights, heater, PH. Sand was partial LS rinsed in water change water & new sand. It cycled in about 3wks. with no spikes but I waited 5wks before adding the first CUC. SPS, as you know is a little tempermental & if things aren't right, well, you may regret it. It also depends on the type of SPS.

honestly I would save your sand(rinsing it first in saltwater till it runs clear). keep it live. add rocks and sand wait 2 weeks. then hope for the best.

Man....to be safe I would wait 4-6 weeks and really make sure things are good and stable.

The last thing you want to have happen is move all that SPS in there and then they start dying on you....that would hurt longer than waiting.

Also maybe go slow after you wait .....add a few SPS....see how they do, then add few more...etc...

since the rocks are cycled already just wait till you see your pod explosion on the glass and you will be good to go. always worked by me.

+1, i know we all get excited and dont want to wait but IMO its worth it to take it slow and make sure everything is stable first, then add a few of your more hardy corals first to see how they do.

I will be plumbing my existing fuge to this tank so the whole copepod explosion is going to happen in like an hour, once my thousands upon thousands find their way to the dt

I am going to say 2 months min. The main cycle is one thing but there may be mini cycles after that as the tank seasons. I would make sure Alk, Mag, Cal and PH are to the levels required for no less than 2 months.
