Last week i purchased a fire shrimp and a sally lightfoot crab from my LFS. The fire shrimp died within ten minutes of being in the tank and i just found my sally dead today. I aclimated them for 45 mins each, and i checked my chemicals and they were fine. I also had just done a water change before i put them in.

Any ideas of what could be the problem?

Sounds like improper acclimation. I don't see any other reason why the fire shrimp would die after 10 minutes. I've heard inverts were much more sensitive to changes in water parameters (especially salinity) but I could be wrong.

45 minutes is also really short. I do a 2 hour (because that's how long it takes to fill my 5 gallon bucket) drip acclimation.

I would never drip acclimate a shrimp. I would float for 20mins then add 1/2 cups water every 5 mins and do this for 45-1 hour Shrimps are not the hardiest inverts but 10 mins is very quick to die. How many hours did you do that water change and much of a water change before you added the shrimp. Shrimp do not like big water changes. A 10% would be ok. All shrimps I have ever had eventually died maybe not enough food because of my other inverts.

I have a serpent star so he get most of all food that goes to the bottom. Then I have some hermits and snails also.

Did you make sure your salt was COMPLETELY dissolved before you put the new water in?

And what chemicals did you test for?

I did about a 25 percent water change. The salt was all dissolved before i put it in. I let the water become room temp before i put it in. And i tested calcium carbonate phosphate nitrate nitrite and ph

Sounds like he had one gill in the grave before you brought him home. No way he would have died due to your tank within 10 minutes. Unless something was amiss with the acclimation process.

Ive dripped all 4 of my shrimp. 3 peppermint and 1 cleaner. I also only acclimated them for an hour. Never had any issues :-/
