Out of the house today, when I came home my new star fish (blue about 5 inches in diameter) was picked at by someone and the insides of the starfish were coming out (looked like a pink anemenie). Any suggestions, quarantine? Is she a goner?

what exactly happened? a little fuzzy on the details. but it may just be its stomach. they take their stomach out of their body in order to eat instead of ingesting food. sometimes they do it for no reason

I don't know what happened, I assumed someone was picking on it....stomach? the best I can describe, on top of two legs, toward the center of the starfish there are pink tenticles sticking out, more on one than the other.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Can you please post an image, a close up.

Star fish are very sensitive during acclimation and it sounds like a Blue Linkia. Usually if the star fish begins to melt or fall apart, it is a goner. But will not know without an image.

how long did you acclimate it? It looks as if it is melting due to the acclimation and not from anybody picking on it. These creatures are one of the hardest to acclimate. I dont think it will make it I am sorry to say

Looks like a melting sand sifter to me. I would just watch it very carefully, test your water for ammonia levels and remove it to another container with display if you see any ammonia or rise in ammonia level or it begins to fall apart.

How old is your tank and how large is it?

Its a 210......the tank has under went alot of problems lately, I bought it all set up like that, had to tear it down, re-set up in one day, then tank leaked 2 weeks later tore it down, moved fish and corals to pet store for a week, then set back up, been up 2 weeks or so, bought starfish yesterday, floated bag 15 minutes, and then put her in. should I take her out of the tank, set up a seperate container and air rate it?
