Alright I will do that tomorrow along with my water change that sounds good should I just clean it with vinegar?

I would take it and pull it apart and inspect the impeller and all the pieces just to make sure its nothing mechanical. From there you could put the pieces in a water/vinegar bath to be sure and then rinse it really well.

IMO, if someone placed an adjustment on the overflow to the sump, open it all the way and leave it that way. They obviously had not clue what they were doing. With that sort of an adjustment that could potentially restrict water, you could end up with more water pumped into your DT than leaving. As a result, potentially overflowing the DT.

I doubt this is necessary. The pump sounds like it's fine.

White vinegar is only used to loosen stubborn coralline algae. It's not necessary for standard cleaning.

Agreed...with a gravity fed overflow you only need a valve on the return side of things...dialing back the return flow will automatically reduce the overflow too...as was already mentioned, trying to control the overflow with a valve will eventually lead to disaster...algae, snails, etc. something will block the valve and reduce flow and the pump will cause the display to flood.

Man... im just confused.. like literally everything on my tank can be adjusted. I have always just adjusted each one until it creates an even flow that stays steady.

I agree with Nvizn. Sounds like the overflow, not to do with the pump. And leave the valve for the overflow open. Closing it can lead to disaster.
