    Shrimp Goby

    Hey everyone:

Well I bought this shrimp goby 2 weeks ago then found a pistol shrimp a few days later and bought him also hoping they would pair up. Well today was the day. The shrimp had moved twice. He made burrows under rocks. He settled down in front right in plain view..cool. Today the Goby..(aka goby1canoby) went in front next to the small hole where I thought the shrimp was hiding out. This was good because he was staying in back of the tank behing the rocks and I only seen him when he came around the corner to eat. Well when the shrimp sensed the goby outside his hole he started excavating sand maddly from the hole under the reef trying to make it big enough for him and the fish. After a couple tryes going into the hole and backing back out because he was to big each time the pistol shrimp would scoop out more sand. The next try Goby1 went in and dissappeared completly. He is about 4 inches long, not one of those small gobys. Now he is backed into the hole with just his head poking out. Looking very safe and releived he found a new home and a new friend  . I will get pictures up after while.

    IM SO STOKED

I finally got some decent pictures. 1 Picture of the shrimp with the Goby and 1 picture with the shrimp excavating some sand. These were taken right after I fed the reef some mixed seafood puree that I make up. They have been staying completly out of sight all afternoon in their new burrow under that rock. I dropped in the food and the fish came out and took a few chunks then the shrimp showed himself. Wow....I think this is pretty intresting stuff.

Yep, For a while I thought they were not gonna pair up. But today I turned down the lights and opened a bottle of Murlow and put on some music....hehehe. I never thought I would be so happy that a fish and shrimp were friends.

Yea. I put the goby in a few days before I found the shrimp at another store.
I put in the shrimp and he dug a hole under my starpolyp rock and never came out. My fish was around back of the reef and never came out except to grab food then he would go hide again. Well I moved the GSP rock so the shrimp would relocate. Then I lost him for a week and I thought he was a meal for my big bad green brittle starfish. Then I spotted a big sand pile right in front of the reef. Yep that sucker was under that big rock excavating sand and piling it out front next to my green brain. Well 3 days later I spy the Goby sitting right outside the front of that rock. 10 minuts later I see this shrimp frantically moving sand out and making a burrow for the fish. The fish tested the burrow twice and it wasnt big enough I guess. Another 15 minuts and a pile of sand the size of a baseball and the fish went in head first and came out head first so I guess he has enough room to spin around under there. Now they stay under that rock for hours out of view and when I feed the fish comes out to the opening. then the shrimp comes out next to him but keeps 1 of his antenia touching the goby. They both grab some food and hang around for a few minuts then the shrimp ducks out of sight in the burrow and the goby sits at the opening for quite a while then dissapears. The opening to the burrow keeps collapsing shut while they are under the rock. I guess they know what they are doing. Hope he doesnt move so much sand that the rocks shift and smash them both.
