Hi. Went to my brother in laws house who has a huge tank. Notice these white spots in his tang along the nose.
Ick? Gorgeous fish and nothing on its body.
If it's ick how do you treat it. Knowing my BIL it will be me doing the treatment to help the fish.
Would a fresh water bath help? I know some tangs get ick easy but where does it come from? He said hasn't added anything into tank in months. Not even rock.
    Copper treatments? Freshwater bath?
I get a little OCD with this stuff. Even it it's not mine. The worst part is my tank is too small for tangs. He has my dream fish and could careless. I feel a little crazy because it's just a fish. Anyone else feel that way? Haha I'm a loser. Ha!!

There is also an algae question I have that I'll post in that section. Does have algea on 1 rock. But not overly bad.
I myself am a beginner so I'm taking every chance I get to learn.
    Thanks.

And in case it helps. Because no idea where ick comes from. Here is the algea in question. Not bad but growing each day. BIL says tangs eat that.
    I have no idea

being informed on the animals you keep/want to keep has nothing to do with being a loser, quite the contrary. some people may not give you feedback because this is a subject that pops up regularly and people can get sick of repeating themselves.

do a search using the search tool on this site and you should come across a ton of examples, stories and information.

personally (and i can't tress this enough, that this is my own opinion on the matter)is that even though ich can be a lethal parasite if it infests the fish to the point of reaching its gills, it is nothing to really freak out about. providing your fish with a balanced diet and its basic living requirements should allow the fishes immune system to fight off the parasite naturally.

it is common for a new fish to get infected as the stress of its new environment weakens his immune system, similarly if a fish is bullied this will also affect its immune system. as mentioned a quality diet can take you a long way in my opinion, include some nori sheets perhaps soaked in garlic to whatever else it is you feed him.

if coraillines ID is correct however you have another issue at hand

I agree that it's not Ich. How long has he had the fish?

Thanks guys. I replied to this a couple days ago but don’t see it. Sorry for delay
Thanks for the replies. I’m learning something new every day and its exciting. Having a saltwater tank is very rewarding.

Couple months. Thought could be stress but water levels were ok (a little high in some areas but not out of line) and no changes in the tank since Tang was introduced.

    Whatever it was its gone.
I did do a search for Ick before posting but nothing with pictures or alternatives if its not Ick. I’m trying not to be “that guy”. But the suggestion of Lymphocytes was very informative. Never heard of that before.

I did a partial water change in that tank. I don’t know it its common but when I do water changes it always stirs the water up and gets cloudy. I’m careful when pouring water in so it does tear up the sand. But still cloudy.

    Thanks for the replies.

+1, every time I've tried to actually treat ich, I just ended up stressing everything out mainly the fish being treated. Which ultimately leads to death. Best treatment is garlic feedings and time. IMO capturing them after they have finally settled is the worst thing to do.
