I have an emperor angel and I think it has ick. It has been acting funny tonight its not breathing hard but it keeps coming to the side of the tank and jetting off of it and swimming against the current and it keeps opening its gills really far and keeping it open for about 10 seconds its mouth is also turning a white color. All my and specs are good ph 8.3 nirates 15 phos 0 temp 77. I can setup a QT tomorrow if it is nessary I just don't know what all is involved I won't have a skimmer for it but do have a tank and filter plz help its my wifes fish and she is freaking out its about 8 months old.

My damsels did the gill thing also, too low of ph does something to their gills or at least I'm pretty sure, i keep mine 8.3 and my lfs says not to drop below 8.1

I really don't see any spots on her but she won't let us get a good look at her either.

is she eating? If she is eating, the best thing to do is to feed her with vitamin enriched foods. This would be a garlic type like Kent, and Selcon. Add to pellets and let soak, then feed. This will build her immune system, and help fight off the ich. I am in the school of thinking that believes good water, and healthy diets will keep ich from breaking out. I believe ich is in our tanks, and can be introduced with live rock, and corals, specifically the mounts that most are glued to. I've had an outbreak once in my current tank, and that was because I wanted to prove a point. The Ich isn't visible. My fish over a year and a half later show no signs of ich ever, no spots no heavy breathing, and no scratching. And this is where the Pro QT people roll their eyes and think, Ich is still internal, and is stressing the fish.

To me chasing your fish to place it in a much smaller tank is enough stress to finish her off. Let alone the stress from treating her with chemicals or hyposalinity, can finish her. If she is still eating, which Emperors are great for. Then enrich her diet, and nurse her back.

Yes he is eating fine Mysis and Spirulina brine shrimp I also feed Ocean Nutrition formula One pellets and Green Marine Algae with natural garlic extract. Also he will eat blue zoo mix like crazy I think its his favorite. I was just freaking out when he came to the corner of the tank and did the opening his gills thing.
