If the tail is gone One of the other fish is biting it off!!!! It may only be at night. Fish do not just lose their tails!! Sometimes aggression does not start until fish are older (sexual maturity) You really need to find out who is doing it, or you will lose that fish!

My tank is only 2 months old, I was lucky enough to notice there was a killer in my tank before putting livestock in; this was the night before I went to buy some fish. It was/is a gorilla crab. He is very elusive. I posted here about him. I have not seen him since I tried to kill him, but one of my fish has what looks like a small nip off of his bottom fin. I have had no casulties so I am hoping he died inside the rock when I doused hot water, vinegar and freshwater down the hole where I saw him go. So what I am saying is you may have a hitchhiker living in your rock that has not shown hiself to you. I saw him twice; the initial sighting and the night I tried killing him.

add stresscoat by API at 3x the dose amount will help repair the fin and will be a preventitive measure to any ich breakout.

I really really really suggest taking the damsels back to yer lfs. Its gunna b very hard to add anything in there w them. They are notorious nippers, very aggressive, and very territorial. Nasty creatures really.I would b willing to bet my last 27 dollars (I went coral shoppin this weekend) that they're the culpret...
