Alright... so i don't know how my tank is plumbed really I bought it as is, I don't know much about plumbing. or anything. I just know that every time I shut off the return pump and allow the water to drain into the sump and do a water change.. It all just gets messed up, when I turn it back on the water pumps to fast into the DT and over flow and it floods. I don't let it flood I shut it back off obviously, anyways I can adjust the amount of flow that goes into the tank And the amount that goes back into the sump. Every time I do a water change this happens I don't know what to do. im just really sick of it. I have had issues with it draining to fast, I keep adjusting and adjusting, how are your guys tanks set up?

There shouldn't be any adjusting to do, as long as the drain can handle more than the pump. Best thing to do would be to post a picture of what you've got.

I have to adjust my overflow after water changes just to get the air out I have a herby
Sp? Overflow and my main daring as a valve on it so I can adjust it so the second drain can skim the top or the water and my last drain is a back up :)
If you want I can get pics tomorrow after work for you so you see and maybe I can explain it a lil better for you

Okay these are the original pics I took when I got the tank. All the red knobs are where I can adjust flow.

Your overflow pipes each have a valve to control the water going to either the fuge side or the skimmer side, correct?

Would it overflow if both of the overflow valves were both open all the way?

Maybe thats how mine is im just not sure... ?? Im just confused

Yes the overflow pipes both have a valve one to the return section and one in the fuge correct

It probably would not overflow if they were opened all the way, but if I left then then the overflow would not have enough water in it and it would make the gurgling noise, there would be too much water in the return and not enough being pumped into the DT to maintain balance

i have durso standpipes, my drains are 1.25", my drains run into a T, from that T they both connect to one pipe and go into a filter sock..

my returns are 1" with a mag 24, when the power cuts back on the water start to run through the standpipe and the standpipe automatically starts a siphon..

Sounds like you're trying to restrict the overflow to reduce noise. Not really a good idea. Your style of overflow will make a gurgling noise because the drains take in air. The Herbie style overflow like silor mentioned is extremely quiet because it can maintain a full siphon (no air). Your tank is not set up that way, though. Better a gurgle than a flood.
