Luna has gone through some, surely he will have some better advice. I live in tornado alley so I better get a good plan going too, not mentioning the bad winters!

Well, Im ready this time b/c I have a gen. But lets say that you dont have one. Depending on size of tank determines how many batt. operated air pumps you'll need. I had two pumps on my 90 gal. Temp isnt really a concern b/c hurracane season is always in the summer time and my tank has reached almost 84 degrees with no lights and nothing died. The gen. is your best bet b/c you can run your system like nothing happened. I would say batt. operated air pumps, ice(if needed), batt. fans and thats it basiclly. Luna

All my tanks have anti-syphon valves for the hoses, enough room in the sump for overflow, a certain number of battery-backup airpumps running airstones or bubble wands (also with anti-syphon valves), and prayer. Longest I've had to pray was 2 1/2 days..

But I wasn't worrying about a hurricane or nothin like that.. In Cali the verfluchte power goes out when it's just a little hot. Lame.

    good luck to you.

i never loose power for more than 10 minutes, not in over 10 yrs.my tanks only 55 gallon so i plan on sitting a 5 gallon bucket with a small hole in the bottom on top of the tank and refilling the bucket every cpl hours.that should keep air in the water.thats my plan at least.

You guys are idiots. There is no hurricane that could lift a tank. Why do you think they're so popular in the army? Unless you're talking about something scratching the paint. In that case I would suggest putting a tarp over it or something.

I'm going with the generator idea. We had no power for 8 days after Charley. I didn't have reef tank then but we lost a freshwater tank that had two fish in it. I do have battery backup, also, enough to run pump on 75g for about 10-12 hours only. I have sump set to handle risk of overflow and have had no problem with losing syphon when power was out for three hours recently. I am doing my best to keep a 30g tank at the ready in case I have problems with DT during outages, I'm just trying not to make the emergency tank into a new DT of some sort. Good luck to all of us here in sunny Florida!!

I take it you never been thru a hurricane..?? Or watch the news...
A Power Surge can do anything.. !!!!

I have seen loaded box cars ( trains ) .. Lifted off the tracks.. from wind.
Not the Power surge. And with a power surge. hugh ships moved 1/4 to 1/2 mile
    inland....

Do as Luna said.. Very good advice.. When Fredrick came thru we were with out anything for 2 to 3 weeks..... I bought a gen. For my Tank, Freezer, etc..
We get some bad ones here on the Gulf Coast..

Really? Thats odd. when charley came through central Florida I was with out power for 18 days. I am pretty sure the people that went through Katrina were without power for longer than that...

I don't have a generator, but I think I am ready. I do have an inverter so I can run the pumps, probably have to try and make due without the lights. After Charley they promised us they upgraded the lines with more underground so we won't have to go without power for as long.
