Curious how much GFO I should be running to "tumble" in a media reactor for 75gallon no detectable PO4 atm with salifert test. I would have just looked this up, but BRS website seems to be down for me, and I am trying to get this tank put back together. LOL

    Thanks!

Edit: Sump is 20 gallon eshopps running @ 45% fill line.

    Use about 2/3 cup.

You could cut back to 1/2 cup actually. Use 1/2 of their recommendation, they recommend at least twice what other companies suggest for GFO use.

Okay cool, good to know. I used just under 2/3 of a cup and the reactor (which I've had for like 6 months ) is finally working LOL. Good to know about the dosing.

I am definitely considering moving to Vodka dosing though, the price just seems so unbeatable.

    As always, thanks 2in10!

DO NOT follow BRS guidelines, they recommed twice what any other vendor does and its way too much and can bleach corals.

Full dose would be 75 grams or about 7.5 level tablespoons. Thats 10 grams for every 10 gallons of system water. You would start out with half that amount though in the beginning and work up to the full dose over a period of time. Once phosphates are in check I usually cut back to a half dose as a preventive measure.

This may be a. Dumb question, but why do you need to run GFO all the time? Seems to me like you would only need it till your phosphates are at zero and then you wouldn't need it anymore. Is there some source of phosphates in the tank? I was thinking the only way it got in your tank was through the water you use. Just curious because I'm in the process of deciding what types of media I need

When you feed you are reintroducing phosphates back into the system.

Ok, thanks. That makes sense. Is it enough though to need GFO all the time? I've got some fowlrs that I've never ran GFO in and algae isn't a problem

That really depends on how much you feed and your lighting and how you use it.

I had a FOWLR with no algae issues but I only turned the lights on when I want to look at the fish. If you have your lights on for several hours a day then you will most likely have algae problems.
