    Hi everyone,

The reefs on our planet are very important to our oceans. They are just generally very important to us aswell. Reefs are the most beautiful, alien-like places on earth. But they are slowly dissapearing. It has been said that about 85% of our reefs will be gone in year 2050 - 2060. All of this because of global warming, fishers, and collectors. Yes i do agree that we really cant do anything about the global warming just yet, although we can help it in other ways. To maintain the reefs on our planet, we have to stop collecting fish for the reefs to our aquariums, aswell as collecting wild corals. The Indo-Pacific reefs are almost gone because of the aquarium trade. This brings a horrible reputation to the saltwater hobby. But what can we do to stop it? Well, support captive-breeding as much as possible aswell as aquaculturing. I support and thank each and one of you captive-breeders out there for supporting the reefs on our planet, and making it easier for us aquarists to get more healthy, and beautiful fish. Aswell as aquacultured invertebrates, and corals. I mean, why not buy aquacultured corals and inverts? They are more beautiful, hardy and rare. It just makes it easier for both us and the reefs on our planet.

I just wanted to bring this up to inform each and one of you to help supporting the beautiful and important reefs on our planet. Just another quick reminder: If you break a piece of hard coral off in a reef it will take years for it to grow back. A little thing to think about when you collect your next souvenir in the reefs. SUPPORT AQUACULTURING AND CAPTIVE BREEDING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! Thanks for reading and understanding - Boywithafishtank

This is categorically untrue. The greatest danger to reefs is pollution, and the over population that creates that issue. Second would be COMMERCIAL fishing operations. The aquarium industry promotes conservation and give poor isolated islands in the south pacific the education and motivation to preserve their reefs and incentives them to take up mariculture and other reef saving practices.

I do agree that captive breeding is a great practice, and I avoid wild collected corals, but not just soley for conservation reasons.

^agreed! And "the Indo-Pacific reefs are almost gone because of the aquarium trade." I don't think there are that many people in this hobby to rid the Indo-Pacific reefs. Really, I understand that this hobby does impact reefs around the world. So try not buying live rock. Make your own, that'll help. Buy frags from friends too.

I'm all for conservation and buying farmed raised corals and fish. But like above. It's pollution and commercial fishing!

I also think the world NEEDS to look at and understand how much pollution China spits out into the air and water!!!

And how many commercial nets are dragged over and across coral reefs?!?!

China isn't doing anything we didn't do as we industrialized. They just have a much bigger scale.
