Hi my names Dave im from Barnsley and im new to marine fish keeping.I dont know if iv got this post in the right forum but im wondering if you can help me in identifying this thing in my tank, and how to get rid of them as i am told their a nuisence.

I have an aqua one 380 aquarium which i bought as a complete set up for marine from my local fish store.Iv had numerous fish and coral keep dying and i dont know why and i was wondering if this brown thing living in my live rock was causing the problem,im doing between 20 to 25% water change every fortnight and doing all the regular water checks and there all fine.

I have taken a couple of photos to try and help.I also have quite a few of these little furry worms in my live rock too are they harmful?

Those are aipstasia they can kill you corals but not your fish you can kill them with peppermint shrimp, or aipstasia X or Joes Juice. did you cycle your tank? what are your parameters and what lights are you running

what are your params exactly? just to make sure. that looks like aiptasia , joes juice or aiptasia-x will work to kill it. or inject the stalk with bioling water and it will release so you can take it out that way. dont just rip it out. the aiptasia wouldnt be killing things, theres something else going on. when was the tank setup?

They answered your aiptasia question well so I'm only going to deal with the bristleworm. They are harmless (unless you accidentally touch one while you're not wearing gloves).

joe's juice and apasia-X work well. if you can get your hands on a small syrnge you can inject with plain old lemon juice....i've found it very effective. its worked for me everytime, just don't inject to much as it can play with you PH and other params. They will shrivel and retract into the LR or whatever they are attached to. never tried Divott's idea of boiling water but it sounds like a good 1 as it won't add any chemicals or anything just water....might have to try it next time i find some aptasia ;) also peppermint shrimp are hit and miss some eat aptasia and some wont....if they will eat them it's usually before they get to the size yours are at. i doubt peppermints will help rid what you have but might help control future breakouts.

It would have stung you and hurt! MY LFS owner has red welts and scars on his hands from touching too many bristle worms. So be careful!
