Just a quick update. I am super busy with work right now so my wife has been taking care of the tank. It seems to be doing well. The orange rickordea has split once and is about to again. In fact the tank has been growing so well, I had to sell a rock covered in yellow polyps and another covered in daisy polyps and xenea.

I am so inspired by your tank. I just wanna be there where i am looking back at the old green algae shots and laughing. Well i was wondering. When is the green algae stage over? Did you clean your rocks to rid the tank of the algae? what do you recommend? your tank looks amazing right now. How did you stop growing the green algae and start growing the coralline? is it just an, "in due time, my friend" kinda thing? when is the green algae stage going to end!! i was told to lower the nutrients in the tank so i added a refugium. Is the algae just inevitable and it will go away as it matures? very inspiring tank.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

The green algae went away once I started using distilled water and took out the stock filtration. The AP24 came with a bunch of filter stuff which was causing the nitrates to stay at a steady 10 ppm. I made a filter rack and put in filter floss, carbon and a phosphate sponge. The sponge stays in all the time, the carbon is changed every other week and the floss gets swapped weekly. Once I did that, the algae was plucked out and has yet to come back. I probably over did the filtration, but I tend to overfeed and was fed up with the persistent algae. Hope this helps get your algae under control. Remember... if it was easy, it wouldn't be any fun!

Everything is still doing well. My orange ricordea has split into three orange ricordeas. I am starting to get the feeling that the tank doesn't even need me anymore:cry:

Quick update. The dreaded green hair algae is returning. Amazing that it has stayed clear this long. One more month and I can begin repairing the damage caused.
