Great site, but don't get why so many people advocate such unnaturally stable and cold temperatures... There is certainly evidence that some fluctuation can be beneficial, not no reason. For several years, I've allowed my temp to vary by 4-6 degrees or more and have found corals do much better when an unexpected, larger swing occurs.

As for temp, there is a lot of data available. This is one summary.

Way too long on the acclimation. Float with the bag shut for about 15 minutes to get the temp the same, and once you open the bag to mix your water in (a little bit every 5 minutes or so), then you have about 30 minutes before the ammonia damages the fish beyond survival (they can live up to a few days with the damage before succumbing).

Your alk reading is kinda high, I think that's around 12 dKh?

If you suspect your thermometer may be off, check it with another.

What about ammonia? Didn't you just do a water change last night? How are you adding salt and doing the change?

Sorry, I shouldn't have posted that here... going back, what about acclimation and where you buy from though? I just ask, because if your other fish are doing well, it is less likely parameters. Sounds more like shock, or the fish was domed to begin with. I agree though with parameters, or else we're just guessing. What about ammonia, nitrite?

ugh lame. I fell asleep when I left him to float... Usually I let them float like 15-20 then mix some water in let sit for 5-10 then just put him in. I'll try adding it every five. thats probably what did him in.

Could be over acclimation, usually more common shipping fish though...
