I Recently Introduced A Frogfish Angler Into My Fowlr. He Was As Happy As Could Be Until He Got Stuck To The Power Head Overnight.
That Damn Powerhead Sucked The Life Out Of The Poor Little Guy. Anyhow, I Thought Nothing Of It Until Slowly My Other Fish Started Dying Off. First Was The Coral Beauty, Then My Harlaquin Tusk Started Looking Sick And My Lion's Eyes Got All Cotton Looking, So I Moved Them To The Quarintine Tank, Where Shortly After They Also Died. Needless To Say, I Did A Masive Water Change And Ran Carbon. Luckily My Snowflake Eel, Spider Crab, And Tiger Cowrie All Survived And Look Great. The Question Is, Are Frogfish Toxic When They Die Or Are Stressed. My water perameters are near perfect nitrites 0 nitrates 5 gravity 1.024 Anyone Who Has Any Input To Submit Would Be Much Appreciated.

Sorry to hear of the tragedy brent.
Ive never seen a frogfish of any species take down a tank in any way other than consuming its tankmates at an infuriating pace.....;) So i would lean towards disease.

Hey brentburton9, I believe the problem might have been a domino effect. Here's my theory, your frog died and started to decompose and degrated the water quality causing your bacteria to go out of whack plus ammonia spike. This caused the other fish to get secondary bacterial infections plus your cowrie might have also secreted toxins into the water when this happened. I had the same problem when a turbo died in my tank. The fish got sick but i took them right out and treated them in furazone green. You should try it if you ever run into a problem like that. You have treat immediately though. one cap per 8-10gallons use a rubbermaid container and make sure it has a wide surface area. Airate the water for a few hours with the furazone first and then add fish. Don't overload this hospital make a few if you have too. One per 10gal is recommended. Then suck out any waste products that have accumulated once every day and replace the water with new water that has the medication in it. It should take anywhere from a week to two weeks maybe longer. If your fish dies within a few days it was probably too late. hope this helps. oh and tiger cowries are toxic when they die. so be careful.

Oh and frogfishes are non toxic but i would get rid of that cowrie. Also the cotton eye of the lion means bacterial infection.
