does my RO/DI unit need to be plugged in all the time or can i plug it in for use only?

    how often do shrimp molt?

should you take the molted skeleton out of the tank or just let it disolve?

picked up some frozen formula one and two yesterday, put it in my tank and it fell stright to the bottom, the fish still picked at it and ate it all, but thought it was strange. is that normal?

    TIA :)

You can use a RO/DI portable. Make sure when it is disconnected that the housings still have water in them, try to use it at least every 10-14 days to keep it fresh and store it in a climate controlled area away from excessive temperatures and bright direct lighting.

I usually place my frozen foods in a small cup of RO or RO/DI water to defrost then drain off the excess liquid before adding the food to the tank.

    Already answered appropriately.

Also answered with one addition. Tell your wife/significant other that shrimp molt. I still remember the text from my wife "Shrimpy is dead!!!!!" :)

Formula is a little bit of a pain because of the gel they use to hold it together. It doesn't melt well in a cup of water, making it a pain to soak in vitamins and forcing you to break it up as you put it in the tank. I always just mush it between my fingers and thumb until it breaks apart in the tank. This is proving dangerous, however, as my female blue throat is REALLY bold and has bitten me a few times :)

Note, the male is as timid as can be - we know who wears the pants there ;D
