OK so lets say you have a hundred gallons of water in your tank. And you lose a gallon a day. Is it important to replace that gallon every day or is every other day ok.

The more constant you can keep your salinity the better off you are.

if you loose a gallon a day then you should replenish that amount of water evaporative loss to matain stability, this is why sump systems can be so/are critical, as are auto-top off systems that automate the manual top off function, mind you- always top off with ro/di water when ever possible- no salt mixture required- as salt does not evaoperate from aquaria- only the water does- salinity is also greatly efftected by water evaporation for most home aquaria.

mesure sg (salinity) before you top off any water replacement, then you know what is going on.

If you have a 100g tank and your only evap is 1g/d be thankful and replenish it daily. Better yet set-up and ATO and you won't even have to worry about it.;)

Well right now it is cycling so it should not be as a big deal but I see your point and it will be added to the list of things done daily.

Get a ATO, if you are topping of manually you will hate your life..Trust me, because its defi alot harder to keep the salinity stable that way and plus its sometimes hard to tell when you lost water.

I wish my 100G only evaporated a gallon a day! I cool by fans so evaporation can reach 3-5 gallons a day in the peak summer months, if it were not for a ATO system i would be back on a 1/4HP chiller which sucked the electricity. Now its time to get rid of the MH lights and go to LED's to lower the wattage, heat and evaporation.

    I lose a gallon a day.
I come home from work, get a little water in a cup, put food in to thaw, fill the gallon pitcher and top off, change clothes, work out for 15 minutes, then feed the fish.
    I don't hate my life! :D

Sushi that sounds like a good routine to get into. I believe that will start tomorrow. Thanks
