I have always loved lion fish but I decided that a volitan would be too big for my tank and not a good idea for a reef with a lot of inverts and small fish. Today I went to my LFS and picked up a dwarf lion fish. Here he is. Could I have some help with what I should try to feed him. I currently have silver sides, frozen brine, and squid in my freezer.

I am going to LFS tomorrow to purchase a large number of brine shrimp and then will have a brine shrimp tank. I will be able to feed him tomorrow and will post a video tomorrow to this thread :) I am slowly going to try to convert him to frozen brine through mixing the two but I have been told that they usually only go after very active moving food. So wish me luck

Artemia alone is not a very nutritious food for any fish. If you enrich/gutload them, they're better, but still don't contain everything your fish needs. At this juncture, you'll want to be feeding your fish appropriately-sized, enriched live ghost shrimp or guppies until you begin weaning it onto non-living foods.

Ultimately, you'll want to feed your fish small chunks of a variety of meaty foods, such as SW fish flesh (salmon, tuna, dorado, snapper, silversides, etc), shrimp (uncooked), squid, clams, mussels, scallops, etc.

Your best bet is to use a feeding stick...in fact, the absolute best delivery tool we've found is a "stealth stick".

Here's a good article on weaning your fish, and it describes how to make a stealth stick.

In general, here's a good lionfish primer:

Give those a read and hit us back with any questions you may have.
