I agree that trying to catch a fish can be sooooooo frustrating, take a deep breath, try the inverted bottle method, before it I would pull my hair out.

With this method I have caught my YT Damsel (like 20 times), Flame Angel, 6-Line, Blue Hippo, Xmas Wrasse or any other fish I've needed to take out. It literally takes me about 10-15mins of waiting.

Get a Juicy Juice bottle or one similar, with a larger spout than say a 2L bottle. Cut it as pictured & invert it. Baster some mysis or brine into it or put a piece of raw shrimp. Then just wait until he swims in, if eveyone freaks out just let them get comfy with it first. I've attached the pic of the bottle I use & about where I cut it, actually looking at it I cut it a little lower in that little indent before the label starts.

Hey don't beat up on yourself. This hobby is stressful sometimes! It will be back where you want it in no time. Your sixline being a pest?

I had a sixline do that in a 24 gal I used to have and is now my QT. Sometimes if the rockwork and tank are redone, it will throw them off and it might help.

If you are determined to catch the 6 line, then emptying the tank of everything but water and sand bed , which I assume was your target, is 100% succesful IME

there may be some damage to well grown out SPS corals, but nothing that they will not recover from IME

The fish trap above is a good idea and does work
another method I have used that requires time and patience is

leave a small plastic handled aquarium net in the tank for a few days, until the fish no longer perceive it as a threat and get used to its presence
feed close to the net, and the fish will gradually come closer to collect food
always have your hand on the net so they become used to your presence at feeding time

if you set the net up so that food will drift into it, you will find after a week or 2 weeks, fish will pick food off the net

eventually you should be presented with an opportunity to net the 6 line

worked for me with Damsels and Clown fish on previous occasions

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Try to figure out where the six line is sleeping and go after him when he is asleep, worked for me.

Good Luck, I know the frustration, a pigmy angel once brought me to tears.:-/

I feel your pain! A couple of months back, I spotted a destructive hitch hiker crab I had been hunting for ages out in the open in my tank. I had to leave for work, but I thought that I would have enough time to nab him.

In the end, it turned into a several hours affair. I got the crab, but I had to rebuild my rock work.... and it's impossible to get it back exactly as it was. So, that required me to re-arrange my corals. I got stung a couple of times, attacked by my clowns, and had to use a few hours of vacation time. All over a crab.
