I know new plastic always has an increase of silicates... But I just added some new plastic and i'm getting outragous flim algae and some hair algae growing only on the new plastic!

How long does the plastic usually leach for?

wasn't that you that had the thread the other day about the "secret cycle"?

if so... seems like you know what's going on ;) (that was a nice thread)

if that wasn't you, then sorry. Yeah, they can. It'll level out. My plastic always get an increase in those at first... it tapers back off for me.

Yes it was me lol... And thank you on the compliment! I was just wondering if this leaching is slow or if it stops fairly quickly. It's been leaching for about two weeks now and 'looks' like the hair algae and the film might finally be decreasing

If you have any boric acid then soak it in a bath of that.for a few hrs I use a 1/2 cup to 5 gal in a tub. when I used to have problems like this what type of plastic is it ? might want to get acrylic/ PVC next timeif its somthing you are building ?

i always have a light bit of fuzz growing on my PH's. If I'm looking at the right angle I can see it. Snails, for the most part, don't get up there. but overall my params have stayed 0 so it's not something i worry myself over.

    :)

Oh I thought that maybe you had gotten a sheet of plastic to make somthing ? The power shou;d be O.K if they washed it at the factory when they make the casings ? On top at the water line is pretty normal though if thats the place you are getting the problem ? warmer water , shallow water and lots of light..
